After last year’s event being hailed as a runaway success, Helensburgh Rugby Club have confirmed plans are already being put in place for this year’s tournament, with many high profile former rugby internationalists expected to take part on Saturday, May 30.

Former Scotland captain Jason White, Scottish internationals Gavin Kerr and Gordon Bulloch and Samoan internationalist Junior Paramore were among a host of stars who took to the field in last year’s tournament.

The format will be the same for this edition with four star teams competing. The 2014 showpiece raised £29,000 with over £14,000 of that going to charity.

At last year’s event, South African legend Thinus Delport was glowing in his praise of the event and was holding out hope of a return.

Delport, who featured for eventual winners the Southern Hemisphere Legends said: “It is amazing for such a small place like Helensburgh to hold such an event.

“The sun was shining, the weather played its part and hopefully this can be the first of many events to follow so, it’s already a success and hopefully the club can keep on building for years to come.” Jason White also hailed the success of the tournament, he added: “It’s great to be a part of this.

“First thing is obviously the amount of effort that has gone in to get the tournament off of the ground. It is a fantastic spectacle and massive success. It is great to see so many people supporting rugby and supporting some great charities.”
