'Pop-Ups' and small Retailers? Why not?
I cannot understand why we do not fill empty retail units with ‘Pop-Up’ shops during the festive season and beyond.
It could be a platform for local designers, artists, photographers and crafters to sell their unique products and could be a 'shop local' hub to encourage people to visit all town centre businesses.
We should be approaching the Council and Landlords alike. There should be no excuse for dead retail space at any time of the year. Our High Streets should be utilised to the full.
We should be on a mission to help ‘Pop-Ups’ and small retailers reclaim the High Street.
Providing ‘Pop-Ups’ do not infringe on existing business then we should be encouraging additional growth and new investment. Many online retailers are keen to try bricks-and-mortar retailing.
These shops, while temporary and small, can build up interest by consumer exposure. ‘Pop-Up’ retail can be relevant and may lead to a more permanent High Street business. Indications suggest that ‘Pop-Ups’ last about 2 months, but many have stayed in the location or moved into larger premises within the High Street.
A baker, candlestick maker, cobbler, jeweller, app developer – even if it’s just for 2-3 months, we should be encouraging new talent, innovative business ideas and the opportunity of growth. HelensPop? And Why Not?
