A MAN has died after being pulled out of the River Clyde – despite the Helensburgh lifeboat crew's attempts to save him.

Police officers, the coastguard, paramedics and firefighters were involved in the emergency rescue operation alongside the lifeboat at the Victoria Harbour in Greenock on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased man had been in a nearby pub before disappearing.

The lifeboat launched at 1.59pm in response to a report of a person attached to a mobility scooter in the water off the East India Harbour.

The man was recovered from the water and first aid administered before he was handed over to a waiting ambulance crew.

He was rushed to hospital but passed away a short time later.
