HELENSBURGH’S country dancers welcomed nearly 90 people to their annual charity dance at the Victoria Halls.

The local branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society played host to visitors from Tarbert in Argyll, Drymen, greater Glasgow, Ayrshire and even a friend who came up from Taunton for the event, which raised around £1,100 for the British Red Cross.

Lesley Cowie from the Red Cross was on hand to draw the raffle and present the first few prizes.

Branch president Roy Bain said: “We thank Lesley for making the journey from the south side of Glasgow to be with us on the night.”

Preparations are now well under way for the branch’s next event – its annual Day of Dance with Active Schools, taking place at the Victoria Halls this Friday, March 6, with 250-300 primary school pupils from across Helensburgh and Lomond.

Roy continued: “We are very grateful this year to have received financial support from Babcock International for this important cultural event for young people.”
