Every day, hundreds of key workers from across Helensburgh and Lomond are risking their lives to protect us during the coronavirus pandemic – and we want to know who you think deserves special recognition.

From the health and social care professionals on the front line of the fight against Covid-19, to the people making masks, uniforms and PPE, and the supermarket workers ensuring you can keep your cupboards stocked during the lockdown, we know there are amazing people from all walks of life who are doing their best to help us through these unprecedented times.

And from this week, the Helensburgh Advertiser is teaming up with the Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club to show special recognition to Helensburgh and Lomond’s lockdown heroes – but we need your help to do it.

We want to know which organisations and individuals you think have gone the extra mile to help and support neighbours and the wider community in Helensburgh and Lomond.

Craig Borland, the Advertiser’s senior content editor, said: “We are launching this campaign to shine a light on all the people who don’t get the recognition they deserve for the everyday heroics they're performing during these unprecedented times.

“It can be anyone from your bin men and your doctors to your neighbours or even members of your family who have gone the extra mile.

“Life is incredibly stressful for everyone at the moment and this is an ideal time to highlight the good news stories coming from people who are living and working across Helensburgh and Lomond.”

Tariq Durrani from the Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club added: “In these difficult times it is heartening to note that several organisations and individuals in the community have gone the extra mile to help and support neighbours and others, who are not able to conduct the daily chores of life.

"All this has been done selflessly with good humour and grace.

“To recognise this admirable work and to mark such service, the Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club in partnership with the Helensburgh Advertiser is establishing a testimonial of appreciation that would be presented to deserving cases, acknowledging their efforts and impact.”

To nominate your lockdown hero, all you need to do is email editorial@helensburghadvertiser.co.uk giving us the name, address and contact number for both yourself and your nominee, and a brief description (ideally approximately 50-60 words) of your nominee’s contribution to the community during the pandemic.

Alternatively, you can send the information in a private message to the Advertiser’s Facebook page or upload a contribution through our website here.
