‘TIS the season of goodwill - and one local mum is making sure that sentiment rings ever true on the peninsula this year.

Autumn Brown, who featured in the Advertiser in July after making free craft kits for children in Rosneath during lockdown, has continued her kind community gestures by organising a calendar of fun events and activities for youngsters throughout December.

The Ferry Road resident, 45, has been hosting craft fayres at a pop-up ‘Santa’s workshop’ stall in her front garden every Saturday for local artisans missing out on their usual trade.

Children have also been creating festive decorations for the village’s Christmas tree, while Santa’s sleigh has been sourced for the village green, and a snowman parade featuring 30 large fabric snowmen designed by youngsters has also been organised.

Mother of one Autumn, who was nominated in the Advertiser’s ‘Lockdown Heroes’ series earlier in the pandemic, has also placed a postbox outside her home to receive children’s letters to Santa.

And new and second-hand presents are being collected to be donated to children, elderly and vulnerable local residents, carers or those shielding.

A festive sing-along is also scheduled to take place on the village green on Christmas Eve.

After moving to the area two years ago, Autumn has quickly made Rosneath her home.

And despite admitting her dislike at being in the spotlight, she said it’s nice knowing that neighbours and friends appreciate her efforts.

“The response has just been absolutely overwhelming,” she said.

“It’s all going well so far so fingers crossed it continues.

“I’ve relied on people donating things, I put together what I called my scrounge list, and it was amazing.

“I have saved a fortune – everybody has been fantastic donating the stuff I needed.

“The community have been absolutely fantastic. It’s wonderful, everybody is really supportive and it just shows that there is a true community spirit. We are having a blast here.

“I do appreciate people saying thank you but at the end of the day I am just organising it, I couldn’t do anything without people donating stuff.

“As far as I’m concerned if awards were to be given out, they should go to the whole community for mucking in.

“We’re having fun in this little village of ours, although I didn’t sign up for all this!

“It was just meant to help people get through Covid, but like it or not, I think I’m in it for the long haul – this is my new job!”
