A HOUSEHOLDER managed to detain a man suspected of breaking into his home near Helensburgh, according to police.

A 61-year-old man has been charged in connection with thefts from four properties in the Arrochar area after a home owner in the village was reportedly woken by the sound of an intruder.

Police say the householder spotted the man holding items from the house at around 2am on June 9, and managed to restrain him until officers arrived at the scene.

The man, who according to police is from the Glasgow area, was arrested at the scene and was taken to Clydebank police office for further enquiries to be carried out into the incident.

After being interviewed, the man was cautioned and charged with theft, a disorder offence, drug possession, theft by housebreaking, and housebreaking with intent to steal.

He was held in custody pending an appearance at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
